I gave up cigs 6 weeks ago and started vaping. Currently I'm using a Flash-e-Vapor v3 rta on a Dovpo e-mech. Love it!

i started with silica wicks but following Rip Trippers advice I decided to try cotton wicks. First off I used cotton stripped from a cosmetic cotton bud. After a couple of hours my lungs started to seize up. I didn't connect this with the cotton at first and put it down to pollen or whatever. But it got worse and worse until it turned into a major and painful asthma attack! I at last realised it might be the cotton and switched back to silica and my lungs went back to normal.

So I did not want to give up on the cotton as Rip Tripper says its so much better than silica. I went to the chemist and bought a load of cotton wool which I boiled and rinsed several times. Using it is so much better than the cotton bud stuff but I still do get an unpleasant slight chest tightening.

Just wondering if anyone has come across this before? Can anyone recommend a very pure untreated cotton I could try just in case it's some sort of residue left from the processing of the cotton.

Thanks for any advice
John A

PS I live in the UK.

First of all, I would not base my wicking choice on what Rip Trippers, or any other reviewer says. I do use cotton, as well, but there are some people who are just sensitive to it. If it were me, I would find something else for wicking.

That leaves you with the choices of silica, ekolwool, and rayon. I'm not sure where rayon would be available in the UK.

Thanks for that. I'll just forget the cotton and try and get some rayon to compare it with silica.

give hemp, ramie or rayon a try. Hemp works outstanding in the flashi, I've also built an SS mesh wick with fiber core on the flashi, was an awesome build, think it was ~ 0.7. I like big fat coils on the flashi, with lots of wick tail on the juice deck and under the build. Holds a tone of juice in dripper mode too. With the mesh around a cotton core, then you wouldn't get any cotton scorching.

There are lots of excellent fibers out there, just try another one or do an ss hybrid. Have the V2, thinking of ordering the V3 base from Artur, noticed he did sell those separately.

Check your countries weaving and fiber vendors, that's where many great fibers can be found, know over here they have been buying CC Cotton or Rayon, from a Sally's beauty salon. Ramie is one of my faves, but rayon and degummed hemp fiber are quite excellent too.

Good luck on finding your fiber of choice. Terrcel, or something like that is another decent fiber that wicks well, or so the story goes.

Hey, make sure and post your builds on the flashi thread Few other fans of the flashi there, and some may be of further assistance.

I'm sticking to Cellu Cotton for now (rayon fibre). I get a lovely clean unadulterated taste from it even compared to silica! I'm using it with all my RTA's . Now that's sorted I'm about to brew my own liquid......:) Old Toms Torquay Fruit Orchard, Devon Cream and Cider Special Reserve!!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up re the Rayon!!!!

Sounds good Jarmstro. Love DIY juice mixing, great way to save money to spend on more gear:D Rayon seems to wick as well as ramie. Just not as heat tolerant, but more user friendly.

Heck, need to twist up a new coil, have the Kayfun Big clone arriving this afternoon. Cracks me up, The clone the Big Russian and call it the Big 26650 Kayfun Lite Plus . But saw one at the local B&M, was impressed, so had to get one for the Tree of Life 26650 :D over 10 ml juice capacity:D

is that organic cotton because it may be you are allergic to the pesticides used or the bleaching agent. If i were you i'd go and buy 10-40 feet of cellucotton or go back to silica. cellucotton is rayon a synthetic cellulose. I use it and like it better than cotton. It also got praise form Basardo . It and Japanese cotton were the top contenders. OH almost forgot Hemp wicks. But they are not cheap. Have to come from Canada and the oils have to be stripped out of it.

Dunno about the other stuff you mention but this Rayon Fiber seems like it'll take the heat of a nuclear reaction!! No matter what I do re juice and Watts a quick rinse under a tap brings the coil and wick up like brand new!!

Hope you enjoy the Big Russian! I've ordered a Big Fogger V4 myself. Now all I need is a quad 18650 regulated mod........ :)

I'm still not sure what caused the reaction. But my lungs seriously seized up big time with the Cotton Buds stuff and still with the organic boiled chemists cotton. I was close to need to go to a hospital. Switched to Rayon and I'm fine.
