Cool Fire 1 Buzzing Sound Question.

I recently purchased a innokin Cool Fire 1 and It arrived in the mail yesterday. I set it up and noticed no problem with it. Everything seemed to be working fine. Today I used it and notice a somewhat loud buzzing noise coming from the unit. I thought it may be the atomizer but after trying another, the sound persisted . I've heard this referred to as "the rattlesnake effect" and "Pulse Width Modulation." Is this normal or should I considering sending the unit back while it is still in the warranty period? I've noticed no change in flavor reproduction or vapor.

Do you hear the sound without an atomizer attached? If so, it's a bad unit, and you should send it back asap.

As for rattlesnaking, that's not quite what it is. Rattlesnaking is the sound from the coil because the mod turns on, then off, then on, then off, creating a very rapid *tss* *tss* *tss* *tss* sound as the juice starts to vaporize, then off, then vaporize, then off. Not really a buzzing sound.

If the buzz sounds electrical, and not like juice cooking, then you've definitely got a bad unit.

[Edit]

Just out of curiosity, what battery are you using in it?

Hi,

I don't know how it is with e-cigs/mods, but with flashlights, when it's audible, PWM sounds more like a "whining" or "whistling" sound, to me, at least. What the PWM is is that the microcontroller is controlling the amount of power by flipping the current on and off. If the rate that the "flipping" is happening is relatively slow, then it can cause audible sound.

Hmm, I have to admit I'm kind of stumped. I have 3 iClear 30Bs and I've never had that problem with any of them on any mods I've got. I'll be getting my Cool Fire 1 tomorrow though, and I'll let you know if I run into any problems like this.

Just for clarification, go to this video... http://youtu.be/tqCybiDn_Y8?t=3m6s

At the 3:10 mark you hear what we refer to as "rattlesnaking". Is that what your device is doing?

[edit]

Edited link to get to the point of the video where you hear the rattlesnaking.

The sound you are hearing is the PWM function of the chip in your battery setup. It should be a consistant buzzing sound as long as you are pressing the button on the battery assy. If you place your teeth on the mouthpiece and apply a slight bit of pressure, the sound should get a bit louder due to direct transfer thru the "boney" part of the teeth,jaw,skull....

The sound you are hearing is normal for PWM units... on a rare occasion, the cycling can be nonharmonic and be nearly silent...

It is not the atomizers coil making the sound... I had placed a hi watt 2 ohm carbon resistor on my SVD and tested it for the PWM rattle. It still made the sound even with a carbon resistor, thus making the coil myth just that.... a myth
