Cleaning the Aspire Nautilus Base?

Hey guys,

A friend of mine quit vaping and gave me his Aspire nautilus. I have a question about cleaning out the airflow base. How necessary is it? I've watched a few videos on Youtube and it seems quite tricky to disassemble the base and airflow ring. People are using vices, wrenches, pliers and all kinds of tools. So to the nautilus owners out there, do you guys completely disassemble your bases when you clean them out, or is it fine to leave the bases alone and just give them a good rinse and clean with q-tips, etc.? If you tend to leave the bases alone, please share some of your cleaning methods.

IMO, the only times it is necessary is when there has been leaking into the air flow chamber. I have never removed the airflow control ring.
I carefully remove 510 pin, insulator & spring then the base seal/gasket, usually a hot water soak & rinse followed by a swabbing out with qtip or wadded up piece of napkin/paper towel takes care of it.
If one is really funky an overnight soak in PGA, hot water rinse, swab it out, compressed air to force remaining liquid out of the tight spots.

I just let mine soak in soapy water, than vodka and swap them. Haven't had any issues with mine and been using the same two for well over a year now. I never took mine apart.

I rinse under hot water and use compressed air to blow out the water like a can of air for a PC.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. Good to know that you guys are doing just fine without removing the base. It's on there tight! And thanks Topwater, I managed to get the 510 pin and insulator, as well as the gasket off safely. It was pretty nasty in there. It's all soaking in some hot water at the moment.

I'll have to try that. Is there a video for the pin removal?

The 510 pin just pulls out from the bottom.
Takes a little careful persuasion to remove the insulator & base gasket with out nicking or tearing them.
insulator - Push from inside airflow chamber outward with something flat / not sharp.
base gasket - after running hot water over it or soaking in hot water carefully lift edge with something flat/not sharp like a flat precision screw driver, work your way around lifting & loosening before trying to slip it over center section lip ( where head threads into base).
If you tear them up aspire sells replacements.

I use a Qtip dunked in rubbing achohol then rinse with hot water.
