For functionality, you definitely want to clean the contacts and the threads. Dirt and grime can sometimes get into the switch and locking ring (if it has one), so you'll want to clean those too. I take my active mods apart once a week and clean all of the parts. I like shiny mods so I'll polish a non-stainless steel polished tube at least once a week, but that's for aesthetic purposes (some people like patina).

Using an anti-oxidant/lubricant on the battery cap threads is also useful. Not only does it keep the threading nice, shiny, and smooth; dirt in the threads can affect the conductivity and voltage drop, as the mod body is a part of the battery circuit.

Noalox anti-oxidant can be found in most hardware stores in the electrical department.

I want to second this advice.
NoAlOx is cheap and does a fantastic job.
It's a must have in any mech users accessory list.

Home Depot, lowes, ace hardware all stock NoAlOx for a couple dollars.

NoAlOx is great and a must for ALUMINUM mods and parts.. Use regular Dielectric grease, same shelf at store, for ALL other metals.
Personally I find that grease attracts more dirt than it protects from. So when I use it I only use a tiny bit on sticky threads.
So.. I just wash once a week or so in Dawn and HOT water, and wipe the threads and contacts clean anytime they get exposed to the sky. The inside and threads of my mod are the bright yellow brass color as the day I got it. The outside on the other hand, now a dull gold, has 9 months of patina, save for the weekly soaking in soapy water.

NoAlOx is designed for protecting aluminum when it is used in contact other metals, like brass and copper, which it will also prevent corrosion.
Aluminum doesn't play well with other metals for very long, so a thin film will keep the electrical connection from weakening.
Yes, NoAlOx works on brass and copper.

Point I was making was you dont have to pay extra for NoAlOx, UNLESS you are protecting aluminum. The regular grease one would use on the spark plug caps or battery post of the car will work just as well. For much less $$$. I mean were talking about something where a 1oz tube will last years. So it really doesn't matter which you use........ What matters is that you keep the connection and contact points clean.

Pay extra?
NoAlOx is like $3 at Home depot for the small tube.

Yes, pay extra, as in buy special grease when I have a jar in the garage, or BATHROOM, of grease that will work just fine. Or pay more for something, than you need, for protection you might NOT need.

The rich don't get rich by paying more for something, just because they can......

NoAlOx is specifically made for this application.

If you's rather risk using household grease rather than a $3 alternative designed soecifically for electrical connection more power to ya.

Google dielectric grease.

Noalox is not designed for the application we are using.. It is designed for protecting aluminum from oxidation.. It is just applicable to our purpose when aluminum is involved. As are many other dielectric greases, some might even be labeled for other household and even MEDICAL purposes. The label tells you what purpose a product is MARKETED for... I have yet to se a Grease specifically designed for or even marketed for VAPING.

Please don't vape the NoAlOx.
It's made for use on electrical connections.
Some things just can't be fixed.

It's designed to prevent corrosion and electrolysis. This occurs rapidly when aluminum touches other metals.

It's cheap, designed for electrical connections, and it works.
My advice is solid.

If you are just looking to clean the copper or brass contacts in your topcap and switch, there is no need to purchase anything. Clean the contact pins real good with some ketchup or even Taco Bell hot sauce. Shines them right up and you have a hard hitting mech once again. Just be sure to rinse all the ketchup off really well, or else it will tarnish even faster than usual.

I've been cleaning my contacts with iso alcohol, but recently I've just been using these cleaning cloths.
Lyfe Rags - AVID LYFE STORE

I can't find them online besides their webstore, but a local shop sells them and they work very well. I believe cape cod rags are very similar. They don't have an abrasive, but it does it feels like it "refinishes" the metal. Just a polish I guess. They do get your hands a bit dirty, but you do see the debris come off in the rag. a little pricey so once they wear down enough I might move to something else.
