I am new to vaping...I have the KangerTech Evod, using 50/50 12 mg "Unicorn Poop" flavor from The Vapor Chef (I am waiting for my 50/50 6 mg flavors from Vista Vapor to arrive, as well as a variable voltage mod and pro tank 3). I changed my coil last night because I was getting very little vapor clouds and the taste was terrible, but now, unless I hold the vapor in my mouth a few secs before inhaling, it is burning my throat worse than anything I have ever felt...help!!!

Does it taste like crap? Burnt & super harsh? Like you lit the .... end of a cigarette by mistake?

If so you may have not primed the coil or not primed it enough prior to using.

Otherwise maybe you bought a different ohm coil than the last one & need to drop the voltage a bit. Or maybe the new coil just needs to break in & it will get better. Or it could be a bad coil ... things happen in quality control sometimes.

My guess is its not primed well or wicking well & you are experiencing what is called a dry hit. Yummy, not.

Is it possible you vaped more than normal yesterday? I've had some days where I go way overboard vaping due to anxiety, and the next day when I vape the same stuff, it hurts my throat. This is especially true if I use some of my husband's 24 mg juice when I run out of my 16 mg - it's too much nicotine for me and causes throat irritation. Also, did you let the coil soak in the juice for a bit and then do some dry drags before hitting it?

I agree with erratum its most likely a priming issue. The juice probably didn't fully wick before you took your first hit.

Now, I am getting no vapor and a horrible taste. I don't have variable voltage, so that isnt an issue. What do I do to prime a coil? (i have one left til I get my new vape, so don't want to waste it...or have to drive 40 miles to get more...out in bfe).

Ps...I didn't use it but 2 hits last night after I changed the coil ... Fell asleep

It sat in the unit over night...only 2 hits on it last night. No idea what dry hits are

A dry drag is when you take a hit like you normally would but don't push the button.

EDIT: I forgot the term "dry drag" is also used to refer to not getting a proper drag off an e-cig. What I'm referring to is priming as others have described but around my area, we call this "dry dragging."

There should be an ohm rating right on the coil itself if you unscrew it from the base. It's tiny and might be hard to see for some people, but it's there. I agree with others who have said this might be the issue. Either that or it's a faulty coil, which I actually think is more likely. I don't use my evod tank much anymore but when I did, just a few minutes of sitting was typically enough for it to get plenty wet. Overnight is more than enough even without primer puffs. Primer puffs are still helpful though.

The unit is getting hot when I try to use it.

The unit is getting hot when I try to use it.

This means that there is a large current flow which in turn means that somehow the resistance is low....... This means that you either have the wrong ohm coil installed or you have a short or fault with the coil.

you may have gotten a bad coil. to prime a coil I usually put a drop or two of juice on the wick before installing it then cover the air holes and take a couple of hits without firing it.this will draw juice up into the coils and insure that the wick is wet when you fire it that horrible taste you are getting is likely from the wick burning.which means it's dry. try priming it as described here and see it that helps

a dry hit is when there is no liquid getting to coil/ in wicking and you are vaping dry burned wick, in essence... that is why priming coil is a big deal, making sure you put a couple drops of liquid directly onto wicking in coil, then generally letting it sit for a minute after re-assembly so that liquid can soak into wicking well (specific method may vary a little depending on specific type of coil/ atty)... you can also do a pull or two on it without hitting button while covering airholes with fingers/ thumb to help pull liquid into wicking, again, dependent on coil/device type

To prime a new evod head put a drop of two down the center tube of the head, then put a drop of two on each exposed part of the wick. Then install head into base, fill tank, let sit for a few minutes, then take several primer puffs ( inhales without pressing fire button). You should get a slight hint of the flavor even without pressing the fire button.
The resistance should've printed on the head in small numbers.

I'm still thinking this is a faulty coil... I thought the lowest resistance Evod coil is 1.5, which should still be totally fine on that device. Maybe I'm misremembering though. Is it definitely an Evod coil? I don't think the more recent coils that look similarly (like the Protank coils) even fit in there, so I'm guessing yes. There was an older Kanger tank that had basically interchangeable coils with the Evod but it should also be 1.5 minimum.
