It seems like to me that the cartridges are designed to give you about 10 good hits. Then after that, you really do need to drip, in my very humble opinion. I also notice that when I buy the high-end carts plus use e-liquid, I don't need to change carts that often. Very good material in the high-end carts.

I think everyones e-smoking evolves differently. When I first started last month I was carts only. A week later I started toping off carts, but if I used one too long the liquid would goop up at the top of the cart and turn a darker color, taste burnt and clog the atomizer. Now I strictly drip with my generic pen. I find that if I drip 3 drops I get 12-15 good hits so its more like smoking a real cig.

Hi,

I have just ordered a 901 mini but not received it yet. I'm amazed at how much jargon there is on the subject... I'm assuming to drip is to fill up a cartridge with the liquid once it has dried up? What's the difference between this and topping up? Can you use the same cartridge indefinitely and just keep topping it up? I'm surprised to learn that the carts are only good for around 10 hits, especially when they are advertised as being equivelant to about 15 cigarettes....?

I am really looking forward to trying this out and being able to enjoy a smoke without feeling guilty about my health, I think it's an amazing invention, hope it lives up to expectations!

to drip-also know as drysmoking- means that you drip the liquid directly onto the atomiser, and use a mouthpiece with no cartridge attached to smoke it.

you can use the same cartridge for several days by topping it up,but not indefinately...eventually performance drops.

cartridges are not equivalent to 15 cigarettes, thats just advertising crap...they should be good for more than 10 puffs...but for a satisfactory experience, they need topping up regularly.

I get way more than ten good hit off my carts w/o topping them off. It probably takes me 305 drags to get the same nic as I would from a cigarette. I think I get 40 or more big hits before I need to start to top off my cart.

One cart last me about two days before I have to starting topping off.

So 1 cart is really only equivelant to 1 cigarette without topping up??

Does dripping liquid onto the atomizer not break it? How long do atomizers last before replacing?

Sorry to hijack this thread BTW, it won't let me start a new thread for some reason.

hiya lynchite you cant start your own thread until you have done 15 post's,1 carts is not equal to 1 cigarette its more like 5 cigarettes
dripping on the atomizer is the quickest way of killing it yes, but you should still get a few weeks,as for how long an atomizer can last?
how long is a piece of string! they vary you might get one that last you a month, or you might get one that lasts you a week, problem is they drop of quiet slowly .so even though your getting some vapour and its a month old ,its not the same amount as when new! but this can happen quite slowly, so you dont notice the drop off sometimes, until you realize it takes a lot of puffing to get your fix!

no,a 901 cart should be good for the equivalent of approx 5 or 6 cigarettes worth of puffs before topping up...

some people reckon its better for an atomiser to use cartridges...i dont see much difference in the 901,so long as you dont overheat it or smoke it when its too dry...

for inexperienced esmokers,id suggest starting out using cartridges only perhaps, until you get the hang of the whole thing...

as for how long they last...well,they can fail after a few days,or last for weeks...thats why its important to have spares on hand at all times...

edit-i see kit beat me to it anyway...

Thanks for all the info. It's a shame the whole thing has to be replaced in such a short space of time, I kind of hoped it would last longer than that and you'd just have to keep replacing the cartridges... I guess they make them as disposable devices to keep themselves in business, don't suppose cart replacements make them enough money.

Do you still reckon it's cheaper than smoking when you factor in all the battery, atomizer, cartridge, e-liquid replacements?

well, thats just the way it is with these at the moment...nothing lasts forever...when cigarettes and lighters run out,you gotta replace them too...

as for cost, well,it depends on how many cigarettes you smoke now,and how many ecigs and stuff you buy for the first while...it can be cheaper in the long run,yeah...its healthier, thats the main thing...

I drip almost exclusively. Primarily for convenience and consistency. It is a learned-art though, and I would recommend anyone just starting on the e-cig use carts until they learn the "personality" of their atomizer (And yes, they DO have one).

When the atomizer starts to go dry, there is a very subtle taste change. At that point, STOP using it until you re-drip. I've been using this technique for a month and a half, and haven't lost a single atomizer. It's better to flood one that dry it out, but be careful about the juice leaking into the battery if you do flood it.

I am now on my 5th day using a JK classic and i find i am getting approx 20 cigs from one cart over a day and 1/2, find using this has reduced my Nic intake as smoked 20-25 analog cigs b4.
Can somebody tell me how best to drip with a JK because the atomiser sits down inside the casing!! Syringe needle mb as most syringes are not long enough.
thanx

Right now, using a generic pen-style from puresmoker. I keep 2 atomizers operational, one for normal use, the second as a spare. I rotate between the two every other day. So far, both are producing great vapor and work great. I have cleaned (boiled) them both several times, but only when the draw gets really hard, or the vapor starts to drop.

In total, over 2+ months with this new hobby, I have had 3 atomizers go....unsatisfactory. (all within the first few weeks)

One Njoy Pen - still working, but not producing acceptable vapor. Njoy sent a replacement, but I haven't used it yet.

One Janty - Same story as Njoy. And Janty also replaced it with no problem. Again, the new one is in my spare inventory.

One generic pen - This one still produces good vapor, but I think the air holes have become TOO plugged, and it is a really REALLY hard draw. Boiling can't seem to break open the holes.

I think my luck with atomizers hasn't been the norm, based on the posts here in the forum. Maybe I'm just too careful with them. I do have high standards though, and now I have a huge spares inventory. lol I think I'm at the stage where I now just have to keep a supply of juice. I think once you learn the "personality" of each atomizer, it gets easier to keep it working well. And don't forget the LUCK factor.

Yeah, I guess if I calculated it all out, I don't have a full 2 months on any one atomizer. But based on performance so far, I expect (hope) to keep going on these two I am currently using. I know eventually one/both of them will tank. Also, I can't narrow down anything "I" did to cause the atomizers (which dropped in performance) to stop vaporing sufficiently. I think luck does play a role, as well as production.
