My iTaste VTR gets a burnt taste whenever I set my voltage to 4.5 or higher (wattage set at 8) and I've tried 3 different tanks so it's not the tank, any suggestions??

You can't set both V & W at the same time on any vv/vw APV, you set watts or volts one or the other.
Whatever mode (v or w) you set last is the mode you're vaping in.

There is more power going to the coil at 4.5v than at 8w, some juice flavorings burn at a lower temp/power than others.

^^ This! Precisely :)

Low ohms and certain juices can handle less in volts or watts mode.

FWIW I pretty much never exceed 8 watts. I almost never even go up to 8. So what you are experiencing is perfectly normal :)
