Building on Oxva Solo

Hi guys!

Asking for a little help, what material, at what ohms should I aim for, when I want to use 50/50 12mg juice in my Oxva Arbiter Solo successfully.

It wasnt actually the juice what was bad, my setup was 2 big for the juice, giving a harsh PG draw flavour was quite ok, I would want less PG feel and more flavour feel, like you would use a disposable vape pen.

I think I should aim for a really thin wire, using as less metal as possible, and towards 5W. I had before a 5 wrap ss316l 32g, at 215C and 15W, it was too harsh to vape that juice.

What should I try?

    Hi,
I'd personally start with 28g wire. Anything higher like 32g is really thin and hard to install and wick. Your ohns depend on the wire material.

For the Solo a 2.5mm id coil works the best for wicking, but you can go down to a 2mm id if you prefer. I'd try 6 wraps of 28g with a 2.5mm id first. If that's too hot, go down to 5 wraps.

Wire material: Kanthal is the coolest to vape, ni80 heats up and cools down the fastest and ss316l can be used for TC vaping. So really it's up to you and your aims.
    As an example of ohms:
    1.2ohms 2.5mm id 6 wraps 28g kanthal
    0.9ohms 2.5mm id 6 wraps 28g ni80
    0.6ohms 2.5mm id 6 wraps 28g ss316l

To get the best flavour and a lower throat hit (pg harshness) install your coil so it's only 1mm or so above the bottom airflow hole. Also make sure the Solo is in MTL mode.

This is a good general review of the Solo:

Thank you so much for the brilliant advice. I've noticed that my 26g ss316 burns wick trough in a day, so going down on the wire zise is probably essential.

I've gathered aswell that I'd like to go down to 2mm ID on the Oxva solo, but find it difficult to wick, for it leaves the filling ports too open and thus might cause some spitback.

But I'd never come to this that placing closer to the bottom airhole would cause less PG hit, I will try it out!!

I've wicked 30g ss nicely, 32 is a bit tricky though not impossible, I will try starting with 28g first and move from there. Haven't tried kanthal nor ni80 yet, I prefer ss for tc and longer battery life, mainly battery life.

    Thanks alot for the reply!!!

    Hey!

I went a little bolder and tried a 2ID ss316l 30g 6 twists and did as you told, to place it as low and close to the bottom airflow.

I must say it is just amazing, exactly what I wanted to get. The coil came out 0,8 ohms, very little cloud with dense good rich flavour.

The wicking was tricky, I bent my coil a little while getting the wick in, so I had to bend it a little to get back in place, nothing too messy.

Thank you so much, it was all so worth it.

Vaping atm 20mg 50/50 menthol salts, its like vaping a dream.

    Thank you alot!!!

    Have a blessed day!!!

Oh and btw having like 0 pg hit, at 50/50!!!!

I'm so glad to see you got the result you were after! It's a fantastic rta, I ran mine as an RDL rta.

    My latest research results:

2 ID coil placed low is good for flavour, 2,5 ID wicks way better, the 2ID burns wick trough 2 fast for me and leaves the filling ports too loose.

28ga ss316l is too slow to ramp up and slow to cool down, causing even more wick burn, for 28ga use as less twists as possible.

Atm vaping 30ga, 2,5 ID, 7twist 1,2 ohmish ss316l, nice smooth flavour, decent ramp up. Gives a little bang sometimes, cause of ejuice being heat up in some pocket etch, haven't been able to fix it yet, going lower on watts or temp, makes te flavour payoff drop rapidly. Atm 10 watts 180 C on tcr 0092.

32 ga would maybe be even better have to try yet.

Most of the time i use 30g SS316L on my MTL RTAs, usually 5-6 twists, single wire spaced on simple TC mode somewhere to 215 - 225 °C , on the small decks i build them in 2mm because i want to gain a little bit more air : Kayfun Lite Plus, Expromizer 1.2, Berserker MTL V1 ! On the bigger decks i built them a little bigger 2.5 - 3mm because i want to feel the bigger space and cut the air a little bit more : Expromizer 2.1 !

Right now i have my Expromizer 2.1 - with 30ga SS316 simple spaced coil with 3mm inner diameter and a little bit higher from the air hole, on my Joyetech Espion Solo on simple SS TC Mode - 0.78ohm - 225°C - 15Watts - 2.5 air hole. and probably it's the best vape that i can have from this setup, at least for my taste and my style of vaping, i can even do some little RDL Puffs !

    Plus, for example :
My Expromizers they have spring on positive pole, so almost they don't hit as much as my other MTL RTAs, so on the others i can get a similar result in a few less Watts, isn't a bad thing, i just find out this small difference so i can make a little twincing here and there... !

And as always, just my personal opinion, and how i like to vape !

Was a 2.5mm id, 30g 6 wrap any better than the 7 wrap?

Considering the wicking it was way better, but the flavour payoff wasn't so good. 2ID 7 wraps is awsome considering flavour, have to just figure the wicking out, try a lot of different methods nice people here have suggested using.

I had another thought. Back when i was using 28g coils i had a coil jig set that included a 2.25mm id coil rod. And it was perfect in my small decks, instead of going down to a 2mm id.

Maybe you have or can find something with that diameter - end of a drill bit etc.

could try, thats another brilliant idea, to come to a compromize with the ID and wicking.

    Perfect.
Thats why are the rebuildle atomizers for... you can fine tune them as much as you want to, so you can find your personal style, and the build that you like the most... !
Thats the thing I love about rta's the most, there's always something new to try and learn.

I like the whole process twisting your own coils, getting them into place and the wicking.

There's just something relaxing about it.

Puss your wick on the legs of your coils... or if they are quite far away, put a little piece of cotton so it can touch the legs and the wick, that way it always be with juice on them !

So I use one strand of cotton to coat the legs? I am astonished that the legs can give off so much heat to fry the cotton.
