Hello all,

I've been a member for quite some time, mostly reading and learning. I am currently using a sigelei Zmax V5, which I enjoy regardless of battery. I am using a Kanger Protank 3 with the adjustable air flow base. I love my equipment, but in my search for more vapor, without rebuilding, I may jump on either of the Kanger Subtank or Aspire Atlantis bandwagons.

In order to do so, I need to upgrade my device, as I understand that I cannot fire below 1.2-1.5 ohms with my V5. Can any of you recommend the best, high-wattage, VW regulated mod, in a tube design? I hate box mods and I find them extremely aesthetically dissatisfying. So, please recommend 30+ watt tubed devices only. Thank you and I appreciate your anticipated help.

Not a lot of options in the tube mod space for high wattage. The only ones I can think of are the Evic Supreme (30 watts), the Vamo V7 (30 or 40 watts), and maybe the Cloupor T5 (50, but not sure if you consider that to be a tube mod - it's round, but quite a bit thicker than a battery). To do a tube high wattage mod, they need to make it tall enough to fit the battery and the chip on top of each other. Since people tend to like their devices small, most makers go with the box so that they can put them side by side to conserve space.

If you're open to a tube with an attachment on one side, you can look at a ZNA (30 watts or 50 on some of the clones). Some of the box mods are rounded on one side like a tube - the IPV mini (30 watts) or the one in my avatar, the SXmini (60).

I was a tube guy until I got this one. Had a Provari and an Evic before that. I actually find the SXmini to be more comfortable to use. It fits my hand better. If there's a B&M near you, you should see if they have some of these rounded box mods in stock to hold one for yourself.

I'm right there with you on the aesthetics thing. Most box mods are ugly bricks. I really like the looks of mine, and the ZNAs are pretty good looking, too. Maybe one of them will fit the bill for you.

The Swabia by Swabian Vapes could fit your bill. It's a well made dna30 tube mod made in Germany.

http://www.intaste.de/en/battery-mods/categories-385/#page=1&products_sorter=6&display_selector=0&perpage_selector=72&filter[0]=0&specialsOnly=0&minimumPrice=40&maximumPrice=339

I'd wager they will come out with a dna40 version sooner or later.

Thanks for the advice. However, this device looks atrocious and is priced just as bad. Keep in mind that the Vamo V9, and my Sigelei Zmax V5 are both under $100.

Taste in looks is subjective. I don't care much for it either personally but some out there swear by it.
Your initial post asked for the 'best' mod and didn't state a price limitation, hence my suggestion.

Cyborg C3 18650 mod has a DNA30 chip. I've not yet seen them in stock but Tatroes has a 26650 DNASTY 40 DNA 40 on their site.

I will check PBusardo's review of the Cyborg C3, but I will say this. These devices are both priced too high for my desire. In addition, I was hoping for something a bit more mainstream and definitely not 26650. I hate to be difficult, but do appreciate the advice.

I do appreciate the recommendation. I will certainly keep looking around and evaluating any options you guys have.

Honestly, it really sounds like the device you're looking for is either a Vamo V7 or a Sigelei 30W. at $50, the Vamo is a good budget tube mod. For another 50, you'll get a genuine YiHi chip in in the Sigelei, with a flatter signal (smoother vape) and a better spring loaded floating 510 pin. Be ready to carry around a light saber, though - both of these are about 135mm (or 5.5ish inches) tall without an atomizer.

Thank you for that advice, as it was PBusardo's as well. I may very well go with the Vamo V9, so long as I don't get any better options.

The Sigelei 20W was good for me, but I dropped it too much so now it has a couple of issues. Still works though, which is more than I can say about the two regulated mods I've bought since I dropped the Sigelei on the pavement for the last time (the Cloupor ZNA 50 and Smok BEC are both dead). I wouldn't hesitate to get the 30 watt Sigelei if that's what I was looking for, though be mindful of it's minimum resistance capability. The 20W claimed it could go down to .5 ohms, which was not the case. I don't know if the 30W can, but I wouldn't use .5 ohm packaged coils on it due to variance in both the ohm meter in the 30W and the slight differences in resistance often found in packaged coils (i.e. the claimed .5 ohm could end up being a .4 ohm coil).

I looks like the VAMO V9 has issues with heat as well. I often hit the "too hot" warning on my ZNA 50, and now she's dead.

I've given up on cheap Chinese mods and am waiting for a rDNA 40. I hope it's cheaper this way. If i do end up buying another Chinese mod, it will definitely have a YiHi chip. The rest are crap.

rDNA 40s come from where? Only Vaporshark? I will consider a box mod if it's very small, like the Vaporshark rDNA 40. However, that goes for $190. Is the DNA 40 chip not chinese?

The DNA chip is made by Evolv, which is an American company. I can't remember what state they are located in, but they seem to be doing a lot for the vaping community.

There are many DNA mods available from places other than Vapor Shark, but Vapor Shark has one of the cheapest ones.

I used to think exactly like you -- I only wanted tube mods. The reality is the tube form factor makes regulated tube mods very long, which I don't like.

My biggest issue is that I have a phenomenal APV in the Zmax V5. It just is limited to 1.2 ohms minimum and is maxed out at 15W. I want something that will allow me to either get more vapor out of my existing tank or something that gives me the power of at least 30, and preferably 40, watts. So, if there was a Sigelei Zmax V5 or whatever model that offered 30-40+ watts, at a reasonable price, I'd jump on it. That's what makes the Vamo V9 attractive. However, seeing how small the rDNA is, makes me feel like it wouldn't be that big of a deal to have a less boxey, box mod.

I presume a straight mech mod is out of the question? (Perhaps with a fuse?) They're much smaller and cheaper, and it really doesn't take that much effort to learn how to use them...

I know this isn't exactly responsive to your question, but since you're not thinking of going to an RDA, these really might suit you better. And a mech will put almost 30W into a .5-ohm coil....

I think a mech mod is out of the question for me, as I am not that level of user, nor will I be. I prefer to have some control, but not at the expense of other things. In this case, I don't want to rebuild, nor do I want to lose the control. So, a regulated mod is probably my best bet. I will say that a short box, with a less boxey design will probably catch my eye just fine. I just need it to be significantly better than my V5 to pull the money out of my wallet. Thank you.

This was exactly how I felt about my Provari, and honestly, I'll probably never get rid of it - best backup device ever. My SXmini is exactly what I was looking for, although at $189, it sounds like it's out of your budget. I'm with him on the long tube mods. Even the Provari in 18650 mode with a Lemo was too big for me. My new one's about as tall as a soda can with the tank on it and about an inch and a half shorter than my iPhone without an atty. Having a little more width was totally worth it to me in exchange for the length.
