Just wondering about opinions on what the best 18650 batteries are currently. I've been using Docan IMR 18650 3.7V 3000mAh 35A, and haven't had anything to complain about. Just curious if there's anything even better

I went with LG HG2's for most of my batteries because they have the highest mah for a 20A battery, and from what I can tell it's what may other folks use too.

I read that the RX200 likes to have it's batteries married so I got 3 Sony VTC4's for that just to have a different color.

Oh yeah this is where I learned that from and he chooses his favorite three and also gives a shoutout to mooch!
I didn't trust myself to remember which brown one's went with the RX200.

RT is not an authority on batteries, Mooch is. If you can't find what you need to know about batteries from his Blogs, then you are not looking hard enough.

@Darth Xibalba best 18650 is not a simple question as batteries are application specific. 18650s are either high amp limit (CDR) or high capacity (mAh), you can't have both and any cell claiming to do so is trying to burn you. I've never heard of Docan but it's going to be a rewrap of possibly dubious performance. Rewraps should be avoided in favor of cells of known spec from the main manufacturers like Sony Samsung or LG, bought from reputable vendors.

Under 20 amps - The LG HG2 or the Samsung 30Q are great choices (3000 mAh)

    Over 20 amps - Sony VTC4 (23 amp 2100 mAh) or the LG HD2 (25 amp 2000 mAh) or LG HB4 or HB6 (30 amp 1500 mAh)

Never heard of Docan batteries before, so yeah, I took your advice and checked out You Tube.

Sorry, I didn't see ANYTHING that convinced me that Docan's are not rewraps. Curious to know what you thought you saw that convinced you.

RIP Trippers is not a battery expert, nor are most of the people on You Tube who have made battery reviews. The lone exception might be Pegasus:

Our very own Battery Mooch is the most competent battery expert that I have come across. He is formally trained and has the investigative gear to do scientific battery testing. It's a big part of his real life job.
There is a wealth of battery information on his blog: Mooch's blog | E-Cigarette Forum

Mooch articles and test results are now available on Phil Bisardo's TasteYourJuice site

The Docan batteries are more than likely rewraps. The 35 amps on the battery label and spec sheet is a pulse rating, which is pretty meaningless. Only the CDR (continuous discharge rate) has any true meaning. Just based on its 3000mAh capacity rating, the Docan is probably a 20 amp continuous battery.

Unfortunately, we can't trust the spec sheets of most "manufacturers". We can trust the bench tests of reputable independent researchers who have the means to test batteries. The top 18650 battery manufacturers today are LG, Samsung, and Sony - period. All the others are wannabe's or battery rewrappers.

    Battery pulse ratings are useless!

There are no 18650's with a genuine current rating over 30A!

I think only 3 companies manufacture. Re-selling is ok if the labels are correct.

They pump out cells left and right in China shops, large and small.

What they lack though... is the extreme clean rooms necessary for our purposes.
There's no secret or big trick to making inconsistent, crappy batteries.

LG and Samsung make the majority of 18650 batteries on the market. Sony, Aspire, AW (?), Panasonic, and Sanyo also have manufacturing plants.

The problem with "resellers" or companies who rewrap batteries is that they usually inflate the battery specifications, and may/may not be using lesser quality batteries (bin B or C cells). There's just no way to tell for sure. Therefore, conventional wisdom would be to just buy authentic batteries by LG and Samsung from a reputable vendor. You can usually purchase an LG or Samsung battery for the same price as you would a re-wrap which may be of questionable quality.

Hell, I haven't paid more than $4.50 each for my Sammies or HE4s in about a year.
Why would I possibly want to pay $8 for an Efest etc?

I also stopped buying HG2s a while back... 60% premium for 15-17% more runtime?
I think not. Their popularity leading to counterfeiting doesn't help either.

I'm well aware Mooch made the list and someone had already posted about it. In the video the entire beginning is nothing but a shoutout and recognition of Mooch and all his efforts, and rip says he's no battery expert and links to... Mooch's chart.

Was just trying to help a guy from gen discussion late at night find a good pick from the chart. Would have just let you guys handle it if it there was someone else awake and posting, and would have never posted anything if I knew this would make it to the battery thread!
