I just got two sony 18650vtc4 batteries. When I had one charging in my sigelei charger I noticed it was making a hissing noise. I took the battery out and it wasnt warm to touch. When I put my hand on the charger it was warm. Is this normal?
I know nothing about sigelei chargers. Some chargers do produce a little warmth, but they should not get hot to touch, and I've never heard of a charger "hissing". If this is a new development, I'd stop using it and contact the vendor.
My guess is it's the PWM you're hearing. Whether that ought to be audible or not, you should probably ask Siglei (or your vendor) about. Personally I don't like my chargers hissing or squealing, even if they work as intended.
A couple of years ago I had a Trustfire 001 charger that would sometimes make a high pitched buzzing noise near the end of the charging cycle. Others had the same issue with that charger. It didn't seem to be a problem though.
Thanks for the responses, I appreciate the feedback. I took it back to the vendor and they swapped it out. New one makes the noise intermittently, I'm assuming it's just a cheap charger. Looks like I'll buy a better charger
