The attached PDF has images of the steps I took to change out the board in my authentic ZNA 30 to an Evolv dna 40. I thought I was taking a lot of pictures but after putting the sequence together and documenting what was done I realized I was more focused on the work than taking images. This was an interesting exercise and learning experience. This is not an exercise I undertook because I wanted to save money. I did this for three reasons, 1) because I like to tinker, 2) I like to build and 3) I really like the heft and form factor of the ZNA but my appreciation for vaping with dna 40 temperature control was outweighing the feel of the ZNA in my hand.

Lessons learned during this upgrade (I really like temperature sensed vaping so I consider it an upgrade . . . others may not):
  • Soldering copper wire to stainless steel was impossible for me . . . I lack the skill.
    • I did some research on various sites where soldering copper wire to stainless steel was discussed and it was stated more than once that to do it right a flux similar to Superior No. 71 or 78 should be used
    • After applying the flux a bead of silver solder is bonded to the stainless
    • The copper wire is then soldered to the silver solder bead (Undoubtedly someone will have no problem putting regular lead/tin solder on the stainless body . . . good for you . . . but I could not get it to stick)
  • The side of the DNA 40 board facing the ZNA body must be insulated with tape or the likelihood of frying the board is high :)facepalm: . . . I got excited about setting the board in and forgot to apply the tape . . . expensive reminder to check, double check, then think things through again.)
  • The use of silver conductive epoxy has proven to be very effective and if used I recommend using both the atomizer ground and battery ground pin-outs
    • Until I used the atomizer ground in addition to the battery (-B-) ground I continued to get a "check atomizer" message
      • For those who don't know, the ZNA uses the body to ground both the atomizer and battery and only uses the battery ground

I hope this is helpful or is in some way inspirational to someone interested in doing this. It can be done. Also, I want to give thanks to Petemate from "The Vapers Shed" for his work on this same modification though it was on a ZNA clone it was very inspirational and instructive.
