so I got some natural hemp twine, and picked up some #10 Aunt Lydia's Bamboo Crochet Thread. Got the "natural" color. fired off an email asking if this product had bleach or dye, and this is what I got back;

"Thank you for your recent inquiry about bleaches and dyes in Aunt Lydia's Bamboo Crochet Thread. Natural is a dyed color."

I read a bunch on threads here about wick materials, and I was trying to get away from silica, but I really don't want to use this dyed stuff either, even though I see alot of posts of folks that do. Not sure if they knew the "natural" was actually dyed or not. To each their own.

The all natural hemp twine I got does not have dye, but it's kind of funky tasting to me. I know, taste is subjective. So I ended up using, that's right, silica. what a drag. I boiled the crap out of both, but not really sure vaping dye is much better than vaping silica. And yes, read the safe versus dangerous thread as much as I could. lot's of posts, lot's of opinions. I guess I could try the cotton... Haven't scored a decent RBA yet, so SS mesh won't cut it yet, but have been building coils for clearos that I have on hand to get my feet wet. So far, the coils are easier than finding wicks for them.

Anybody have a link to bamboo that isn't dyed, for sure?

silica breaks into small fibers or splinters is the main pitfall with silica. inhaling the splinters into the lungs is the concern. also flavor seems to be altered by changing to natural fiber wicks, and the actual mechanical wicking property itself may be better. the thread has tons of opinions, and goes on that way at length. as with most of this stuff, there is the "for" group and the "against" group. it all comes down to personal preference and choice. i just wondered if anyone else ever asked about the dye in the bamboo thread, or knew it had dye.

I like that, at least it tastes good. lol. I thought "natural" was a statement or definition, not a color. I don't think their definition of natural is the same as mine. I just for whatever reason thought to email and ask them. I know, I know, "still better for you than analogs", but, wonder which is worse, silica or dye. Kinda split decision for me. I guess at least I can dry burn coils with silica. I also have some hemp, and it has no dye, yes, I asked on that one two. So, funky taste, dye, or silica fibers. Gotta get an RBA and use some ceramic or SS mesh I guess.
