I don't think so. It has to get extremely hot to burn silica. If you're talking the few strands of wicking material right under the bridge of an atty, I always take that out. It doesn't burn, but it will gunk up, and the attys wick just fine with out it. There's several good
threads on that but I couldn't fine them just now.lol. The inner material on some of the cartos is thought to be cotton and it does burn. Also the poly will burn if it gets too close to the coil. Here is a good vid on the silica wick used in the E2 cartos. Later, JD.
