Are certain gauges no good for certain resistance?

It depends what device you're using. I'm using a regulated device that only goes up to 15 watts.

I found (out of 28, 30, and 32) that 30 gauge was ideal, given only 7.5 watts per coil. 28 was OK, but a "primer hit" was absolutely necessary, given the start up time. It essentially doubled my battery life to switch to 30 gauge, since the coils got hot so much more quickly.

If you're giving 15+ watts to each coil, however, you'd probably want lower gauge wire.

As long as it works it doesn't matter what gauge. Personally for low ohm builds, I really like 26 gauge. You wind up with a lot more surface area, and because of this, you get more flavor and vapor. On my bottom feeding Trident V2 on my Reo, I get a lot more vapor and flavor from a .37 ohm build with 26 gauge, than I did with a .28 ohm build with 28 gauge
