I will be travelling for a couple months and taking classes abroad.

I've toyed with the idea of getting into the ecigs. Particularly the blu cigs. But only because they are advertised on the other sites I visit.

I only smoke American Spirit Perique. So I am a bit concerned that I won't find something with that strong of a flavor.

So Ideally I want something that is rechargeable. I assume that the pack recharger is the way to go here. But it might be a couple days at a time that I am not near an electric outlet for more than a few minutes.

Also, I'd like it to look like a cigarette. I dont mind the black, but the blue LED on the blu cigs is a bit tacky and I am afraid would draw attention.

The main problem I see is that I will not have enough product or like the product I do get enough to stick with it. Then it will just be dead weight.

I only smoke about 8 cigarettes a day, and I roll my own using two filters. I've found this cuts way back on smoking packs and gives a little bit of a lighter flavor than the packs of American Spirits I used to smoke. I figure i am smoking about 1/2 to 3/4 a regular cigarette for each one that I roll myself. I'm also saving quite a bit over regular smokes. But I'd like to save even more and be a bit healthier, maybe smell better too.

So thats where I am at, I leave in just over a week, so if I am doing this I need to order it soon. I just bought two pouches of tobacco yesterday... So I dunno.

I would say, that you might be cutting it too close here. There is a learning curve and a period of trial and error and buying and discarding and buying different components.... But- Here is what I did. My first order was a Magma kit from Volcano- it came with 2 batts, and atty, 5 packs of prefilled carts (your flavor choices) an M-Pack (battery charging carrying case) a USB/Wall charger. I believe they have a new kit that comes with a tankomizer and a bottle of ejuice. If you were go start out with something like that with the plan of using it when your analog's weren't available or in places you couldn't smoke. I say go for it. They offer fedex shipping that will get your purchases to you in plenty of time to play with it a little bit before you leave. If you are going to do that- I suggest getting a couple of the higher capacity batteries. Nothing sucks more than not having a charged battery!

I've travelled quite a lot, and wouldn't have found it easy to take up ecigs while traveling. There are too many elements to the learning curve, and cigarettes (the other kind) are so convenient.

If you decide to go for it, I'd say give up on the "cigarette lookalike." You'll have a somewhat easier time staying charged with a fatter battery. Battery life is dramatically different. I've never heard of a cig-lookalike that last most folks more than a couple of hours. Even with charging case, that will only get you 4-10 hours of battery independence. I get about 8-10 hours of life without charging from a 510, charging case and four batteries. If you want to go DAYS, get an ego-clone, and a few spare batteries. A rule of thumb I've heard is that most people go through 800-1100 mAh of battery per day. On my 510, that's about 6 full batteries for me. Starting out the day with four full batteries and a fully charged case, that means, charging as I go, I get through the day with a little to spare. If I don't charge everything that night, though- the next day by noon, I'll be ready to kill for an outlet.

A riva battery (ego style) lasts me 2/3 of a full day by itself. (750mAh)

If you're going to be travelling, get as much battery life as you can.

I'm travelling and going to be living in Japan for a few years. I have been e-smoking for about 6 months though. I have been testing and ordering products and finally found a decent reliable solution. Also, I had to stock up on liquid because some countries don't allow it. You're probably cutting it close. My advice if you are serious is to go for a high end model like an SD and order a ton of replacement parts and cartridges for if the thing breaks down. Compatibility, especially abroad, may be an issue. I think this will work with an SD, though my previous 8 e-cigs were a pain in the .....

Just an update.

Made it through Europe and back. Went through a break up and considered not quitting. But I went ahead and ordered my first ecig last week. Got it a couple days ago and have been tobacco free for about 30 hours now. Withdrawal is a bit different than I expected. So far some coughing and joint pain, a little light headedness and headaches.

But I ordered the Joye 510 from mypvshop. I went with them because they let me pick out all the colors for all the components, which is cool. I got one to look like a cigarette for the bar and another for when I am on campus. Its copper with a green LED. My campus is tobacco free.

My throat has been a bit sore, but I do not know if its part of quitting or if its the PG liquid that came prefilled. I am a little bit concerned about this but have read to just keep hydrated and I should be alright.

I ordered a sample pack from the same place and got a few PG free drops, but upon further reading (after ive started using them) they appear to use "PEG or VG" but are not specific. The opinion of PEG being bad or not varies depending on which thread I read. My question is, Should I be concerned?

I also smoked perique American Spirits for 5 years. Pretty harsh stuff. I was thinking about trying 100% VG but even this PEG stuff has less of a Throat Hit. I am concerned there also. Is a 40/60 pg/vg a good way to go here.

I am pretty excited about not smoking, if a little cranky and achy, but glad that I finally took the leap. I am looking forward to trying some different flavors and maybe making my own.

Well, thats all for now I guess.

I used to smoke a handful of Luckies or Winston daily, and cut the filters off to get more hit. So I know exactly what is needed for someone who smoked a small number of very strong smokes a day.

Like you I started with a regular e-cig but soon found I needed 5 volts or it wasn't going to work. 36mg liquid too.

After a year or so, I cut back, and mostly use an eGo type now, with LR fittings, and lower strength liquid. The first bit was tough and needed mega power - but of course YMMV.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I think I am going to order that perique. I have also thought about the Red Oak Sample pack from johnson creek.

My symptoms are pretty spot on there. I dont know if I mentioned it, but I have Crohn's Disease. So before I quit smoking I was going to the restroom every few hours. Which was inconvenient at the least. Since I have quit smoking though I have been constipated. Trying some prune juice. That might be TMI... My nose has been running pretty steadily. I talked to a few friends that quit and they say they had the same symptom.

So far night time is the worst time for cravings. I'd really like a smoke right about now. Insomnia sucks, but I know it will get better soon.

I am curious about a higher voltage system. But the setup and juice I got last week set me back $55. I am a student in between work right now so that might have to wait. I am pretty satisfied with my 510. One battery last me most of the day. I know I am vaping more than I smoked but as mentioned that might be because I am used to a much stronger flavor. I could also go for a lot more vapor. I dont know if thats possible. I am sure with a higher voltage system it is. I thought I saw a section here for people selling their old gear.

Joint pain is substantially less today. I plan on reading some of my text book tonight and taking some melatonin. Any other recommendations appreciated.

A quick question, I am sure this has been answered but I am not used to this forum's search feature yet. Will using the Generic or "FS" atomizers or batteries with the Authentic Joye 510 I have now damage anything? Is the FS just as good or is saving the couple bucks here and there not worth it. I am totally about saving a couple bucks if it is negligible.

And the cartomizer, (this is a cartridge and atomizer in one ?) those are cheap, so I assume that they do not last as long as a stand alone atomizer? is that right ?

Thanks again.
