Wow, my first thread - wonder why no one has posted this yet (or did I miss it):
joyetech finally brings TC to their beautifully shaped eGrip product:
eGrip VT - Joyetech
eGrip_VT_01.png

Size: 46.4mm*20.4mm*99.5mm
Size: (including mouthpiece)
Battery Capacity: 1500mAh
Output Mode: VT-Ni/VT-Ti/VW Mode
E-juice Capacity: 3.6ml
Resistance Range:0.2-1.0ohm for VT mode
Resistance Range:0.4-3.5ohm for VW mode

On preorder at efun.top and heavengifts.com - some German vendors list them as well...

Looking forward to it - I skipped the NeBOX due to non-working TC. This might be a good alternative

Is the egrip really that bad?
Never had one, currently hooked on my Tile's. However as a secondary, stealthy device might be worth a shot.

I understand that the eGrip VT works with regular CLR heads. I was pretty pleased with them on my Ego One / Mega & Wismec Amor. No leaking issues and used these tanks over half a year - and still use them occasionally.

The real problems with Egrip are relatively short battery life and abysmal airflow characteristics. The newer CL/CLR coils also use a silicone cap to adapt to the chimney in egrip and these caps can impart a nasty flavor to your vapor stream when the coil heats up that I like to describe with PBusarios famous Monkey .... label.

Airflow can be greatly enhanced by drilling a hole in the center of the CL base like the RBA base had as @defdock can attest, however it will only improve the airflow so much as the vent tube is very restrictive as well. Egrip is adequate for tootle puffers, but far from competing with Nebox for airflow.

The plus is that Joyetech understands how to make Temperature Control Work; Kangertech unfortunately does not at this point.

Joyetech need to take the Evic VTC control Panel, removable 18650 battery, & combine that into designing a larger firmware upgradeable Egrip design that will carry a 10ml tank with much better airflow characteristics comparable with the Ego One Mega without Monkey .... silicone coil caps.

It would be wonderful if the new design incorporated a new RBA deck based on a 22mm design that was actually large enough to build coils on without out the aid of a microscope.

It does look like Joyetech has redesigned the airflow in the VT come to think of it. Look at the Drip Tip Diameter below.

And looking at the stock airflow holes in the base of the unit they have now incorporated a second air intake hole.

Also note in the diagram above there is no Silicon Cap pictured as there was in the diagram for the Egrip OLED CL pictured below. That may mean the Monkey .... cap is eliminated but probably also means the old RBA heads may not be compatible without a new chamber cap for the RBA
.

I tried registering for like the 3rd time on Joyetech's forum to ask Kermit about that but I never get the confirmation emails from the forum. Think my service provider Verizon blocks them upstream from me. All the information I posted so far was conjecture from the postings on Joyetechs product page.

I'm sure they can easily adapt the old RBA Base with a less domed top cap cheaper than producing a separate backward compatible chimney (guess they call it a vent tube) and charge us for a separate part to be able to use it. The CS coils are just a total waste of time IMHO so I can't even imagine anyone wanting to use them in this.

If you think about it though, since the CL Coils are shorter than the CS Coils and the RBA, it might be possible to use a washer/O-ring the thickness of the CL Silicone top cap they used in the CL version under the rim of the Chimney/Vent Tube When it is installed to hold it up high enough for use with the RBA or CS Coils. The worse that should happen is the drip tip will sit a little higher. Can't confirm this at this time, but it makes sense to me.

Your thoughts?

I completely agree. Joyetech should've competed directly against the (wildly disappointing) Nebox with an Evic VTC styled all-in-one device. They already have the tech and this should've ensured a dominant position in this segment of the market.

Guess I'll have to wait for an updated Nebox :(

A first look video

And as you can see around 1:54 the Silicon cap is still used.
And I think that the vent pipe is chromed brass. (you can see the yellowish color inside)
I don't own an eGrip OLED. Does that Silicon cap gives a nasty flavor?

  • Firstly, Thank You for that Heartbreaking first look.
  • I have 2-20w & 1-30w OLED, all converted to CL/CLR - all Drilled at Base & Chimney. You only really notice the off taste of the silicone cap at higher wattage settings, but once you do it sort of sours you on the entire concept in my experience and you start to taste it all the time whether real or imagined, I cannot say. Temperature control may mitigate that, but again, I cannot say.
  • I see the second intake air hole they pictured in the detail circle on the VT exploded diagram does not exist in the production units in the video. The existing air intake in the base appears slightly larger in the VT that the CL but not enough.
  • The removable chimney may be slightly larger in ID at the narrow section, but it is very tough to tell for sure from a video like that.
  • I know that Airflow of the OLED CL is greatly improved by drilling a hole at the center of the CL base like the old RBA had, but the chimney is still very restricted in that version to the point that I drilled mine as much as I dared to try & improve it further, but you can only get so much out of it. Doesn't really leak like the old RBA did when you do this but if left full & unused for a week or so it can ooze a bit.
  • I think Temperature Control will be a great improvement especially if airflow is enhanced but for me it is too little, to late for me to buy in and I guess I would rather suffer the malfunctioning and dangerous Temperature Conrol in Nebox than waste my money on this device.

A seperate chimney would be better since it serves both the RBA and the CS base.
I agree CS heads are crap, but the CS base fits all variants of Eleaf GS heads as well as Aspire BVC heads, which are all better than Joyetech CL heads imho.

Any eGrip should come with CS, CL & RBA base included. And a separate chimney is better than any monkey .... cap.
